Need Help Writing Your CV?

CV Docs, an annual event sponsored by the Graduate Student Association (GSA), affords graduate students the opportunity to have their CVs reviewed by a faculty member.  Master’s-degree and PhD Candidates seeking either academic or private-sector jobs are eligible to participate with priority given to those students presently on the job market and those entering it in the coming year.  CV Docs is offered at no cost, thanks to the generosity of our volunteer faculty members and post-doc fellows.  Students that have registered for this event will submit their CVs at least a week prior to event for the selected faculty member for review.

Research Opportunity ($$$!)

Are you a graduate student with research in the arts and humanities, digital humanities, new media, library and information science or computer science? Want to win $500?

ASIS&T SIG-AH and SIG-VIS are seeking previously unpublished research for a Master’s and a PhD Student Research Award. Finalists will be invited to introduce their research presentation at the 2017 Virtual Symposium on Information and Technology in the Arts and Humanities (April 18–19, 2017), and winners will receive a Student Research Award and cash prize up to $500.

The theme, Open Science in the Humanities, invites participation from a variety of theoretical and empirical perspectives on the topic. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, past research, case studies, and current projects that use humanities-related open data or open content, or that discuss topics in the following areas:

• Open information retrieval
• Collaborative research methods
• Digital publishing
• Open access
• Data curation and sharing
• Linked data/linked open data
• Social media or Web 2.0
• Open Source technology
• Research assessment

ALA Video Roundtable Mentoring opportunity

One of the services the ALA Video Round Table provides its members is a

mentorship program. This program connects experienced media professionals with those who are new to the field, or who would benefit from advice and guidance beyond their local institutions.

Call for Proposals: Radical Libraries, Archives, and Museums Allied Media Conference 2017

Conference Dates: June 15-18, 2017

Location: Detroit, MI

Submission Deadline: March 12, 2017

Libraries, archives, and museums (LAM) are more than places for collecting and storing books and exhibiting artifacts. LAMs can be living, transformative spaces where artists, educators, technologists, and activists convene to access, document, share, organize, and find solutions to issues that impact their communities. We welcome proposals for sessions that will be accessible to participants of all ages and backgrounds, and interpret the work of galleries, libraries, archives, and museums through the lens of media-based organizing. In previous years, we have covered subjects such as restorative justice practices in teen librarianship, starting seed libraries, zine libraries, tool libraries, and community archives that center the narratives of people of color.

We are especially interested in sessions that:

·         Challenge traditional gallery, library, archive, and museum

structures, institutions, and organizations

·         Discuss best practices for community-based organizations that

provide books, technology or internet access, creative materials, or collaborative opportunities centering people of color, queer and gender nonconforming folks, disabled people, incarcerated people, and undocumented people

·         Consider the role of librarians, archivists, and curators in strengthening the knowledge, culture, and collective memory of communities impacted by social and economic disparity and state sanctioned violence

·         Address racism, white supremacy, and issues of inclusion in galleries, libraries, archives, or museums

Endnotes Call for Student Proposals.

Greeting from the Endnotes Committee. We are looking for contributors to our Spring 2017 publication of Endnotes. For those LIS students who are new to NMRT, Endnotes is a scholarly peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles of interest to early career librarians. Endnotes is a great platform to provide an opportunity for LIS students and early career librarians to gain experience writing for publication. Endnotes publishes a wide array of topics from library instruction & assessment, training, mentoring, job searching and much more. Articles should range between 2,000-4,000 words, present original research, practitioner-based research, and case studies relevant to LIS students and new library professionals.  Submissions will be accepted throughout the year, but articles received by February 15, 2107, will receive guaranteed consideration for the Spring 2017 issue. Columbia Area Students: Job Opportunity!

Live in Columbia? Looking for part time employment during the school year? Stephens College has an opening for a part-time Evening & Weekend Reference Librarian!

This is a part-time, maximum 20-hour per week position, running from August to May.  Work hours will be evenings and weekends and scheduled with two other Evening & Weekend Reference staff.  They are currently looking for someone to work two evenings per week and help them through the end of the semester (May 4^th).

Responsibilities include providing reference and research services to Stephens’ students, faculty, and staff;  Supervising student workers during the evening and weekend hours;  General supervision of the library building during the evening and weekend hours;  And other responsibilities and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications include current enrollment or completion of an accredited graduate library program, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a patron-focused mindset.

Summer Internship Opportunity

The Missouri Historical Society is accepting applications from individuals interested in an unpaid internship with the Collections Department. The intern will work alongside the Soldiers Memorial staff to process an archival collection at the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum, located in St. Louis, Missouri.  For more information, click here.

Looking for Archives Experience???? Take ISLT 9410 over Spring Break.

We have an opportunity to work with an institution in Kansas City, the Black Archives of Mid-America from Sunday, March 26th to about Friday, the 31st. 

This course, ISLT 9410 (1 credit hour) will provide a basic overview of archival practices, including accession and cataloging materials, supplemented by field experience. Tentatively, Dr. Buchanan would lead a five-hour "Intro to Archives" session on the 26th (either in KC or Columbia) and then students will be expected to work on-site, located in the historic 18th & Vine district. SISLT and the students may be able to facilitate lodging and meal arrangements.
