Volunteer Opportunity

The State Historical Society in Columbia, MO is looking for volunteers to help judge National History Day in April. 

Judges can expect to spend the day interacting with students from across the state in grades six through twelve and providing constructive comments on their work. This feedback contributes to their learning experience and helps prepare top finishers for nationals. 

To thank you for your essential participation in National History Day in Missouri 2017, we will provide a light breakfast, lunch, and a travel stipend of up to $50 for those whose round trip mileage exceeds 75 miles. Sign up today. Travel Grant Available to a Student Interested in Special Libraries!

SPIE Digital Library is sponsoring a $1200 travel stipend toward payment of expenses incurred while attending the annual Special Libraries Association conference in Phoenix, Arizona, June 18-20, 2017.   The award recipient will also receive a one-year SLA student membership to the Engineering Division.  An announcement and introduction to the award recipient will be posted on the Engineering Division website, appear as an article in the Sci-Tech News.  The award check will also be presented at the SLA conference, date and time to be determined.

The award winner will be required to fulfill one of the two post-award requirements:
* Submit an article to the Engineering Division newsletter, Sci-Tech News, within six months of attending the conference covering your conference experience or what you took away from the conference.
* Attend an Engineering Division meeting shortly following the annual conference to give a report about your conference experience.

To be qualified for this opportunity, submit a personal statement of up to 1000 words on how you believe this award will benefit you personally and professionally.  Provide your name, address, telephone number, email address, name of your library school, and statement to Bette Finn at bette.finn@library.gatech.edu.  Submit your application by March 1, 2017.

The winner of the award will be notified by early to mid-March.

Graduate Student Services and Initiatives is providing 30 College of Education graduate students the opportunity to enhance their self-confidence and skills related to scholarly writing through The Grad Academy. The academy is FREE and breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks will be provided. 

Who Can Attend

Any College of Education graduate student who has completed at least one semester of graduate work. The first six graduate students to sign-up from each of the five departments from the College of Education will be admitted. There will be a waiting list. What Students Will Learn 

As a member of The Grad Academy, you will...

·         learn how to read journal articles & improve reading comprehension; 

·         be able to expand and organize literature reviews with e-citation tools;

·         gain techniques for academic-style writing (journal articles & thesis/dissertation); and

·         overcome the impostor phenomenon (because it often impedes writing progress).

The application period for the 2017 Harold T. Pinkett Minority Student Award is currently open, with a deadline of February 28, 2017.

The Pinkett Award was established in 1993 to recognize and acknowledge minority graduate students, such as those of African, Asian, Latino, or Native American descent, who, through scholastic and personal achievement, manifest an interest in becoming professional archivists and active members of the Society of American Archivists.

Up to two recipients of the award will receive full complimentary registration and related expenses for hotel and travel to attend the SAA Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, July 23-29, 2017.  In addition, each recipient receives a complimentary one-year membership in SAA.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY WITH ALA.

ALA is seeking a part-time online learning assistant to work with our Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA) and the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) divisions.

Reporting to the ASCLA/RUSA Web Services Manager, this position will assist in organizing and supporting the divisions’ program of online CE opportunities to increase their quality and generate income for the divisions. 

Responsibilities include maintaining digital submission and session evaluation forms, assisting with calls for proposals, contacting presenters for scheduling and logistics, setting up virtual meeting rooms, communicating registration information to the Member and Customer Services Department, supporting the Marketing Specialist to promote upcoming opportunities, creating and issuing certificates of completion and tracking the previous activities to make sure they are carried out and all the deadlines are met.
