The SAA Encoded Archival Standards Section will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday, April 12th, 12:00-1:00pm, to highlight recommendations for using EAD3 -- from the EAD3 Study Group initiative.

This free webinar will highlight the "Implementing EAD3: Search and Exploration" report (http://www2.archivists.org/sites/all/files/EAD3_Study_Group_on_Discovery_Recommendations_20160719.pdf), prepared by Sarah Buchanan (University of Texas), Michele Combs (Syracuse University), J. Gordon Daines III (Brigham Young University), Cory Nimer (Brigham Young University), and Elizabeth Russey Roke (Emory University). The report summarizes the results of the Study Group's work to review the impact of newly introduced EAD3 elements on user discovery tasks. For each element, the group has provided a discussion of the desired functionality and possible discovery interface implementations, as well as a series of recommendations on encoding. An analysis of the costs and benefits of using these elements is also provided to assist community members in their decision-making.

GPC is seeking leadership for next year!

As we approach the end of the school year, GPC is looking toward next fall and how they can continue to serve all graduate and professional students at Mizzou. In order to continue advocating for their constituents, they need a strong Executive Board. At their April General Assembly meeting they will elect that board for 2017-2018. Speaker Presentation: Wesley Lowery

What: Public Health and Criminal Justice Reform

In celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the Master of Public Health Program and launch of the undergraduate public health program in the School of Health Professions (SHP), journalist and author Wesley Lowery will be speaking at Mizzou.

An emerging voice in the national media landscape, Wesley Lowery is a national reporter for The Washington Post, covering the interactions between law enforcement officials and communities. Lowery is also author of the upcoming book “They Can’t Kill Us All,” which is the first deeply reported book to bring alive the quest for justice in the deaths of Michael Brown, Tamir Rice and Freddie Gray.

Among other honors and accomplishments, in 2015 Lowery was named to the Root 100, a list recognizing the nation’s top African American influencers. In 2014, he was named “Emerging Journalist of the Year” by the National Association of Black Journalists and also earned a 2014 Shorty Award as the best journalist on social media.

Wesley Lowery’s visit is co-sponsored by Missouri School of Journalism, MU Black Studies Program, MU Honors College and MU College of Education.

Academic & Conference Scholarship Opportunities

Association of Jewish Libraries is pleased to announce an academic and conference scholarships to students enrolled or accepted in a graduate school of library and information science.

Prospective candidates should have knowledge of and interest in Jewish studies, and demonstrate the potential, ability, and intention of pursuing a career in Judaica librararianship.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP
The Association of Jewish Libraries awards an annual academic scholarship to a promising student with a history of participating in Judaic studies or libraries, accepted into or attending or an accredited graduate school of library and information science. This scholarship is merit-based rather than needs-based.

CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP
AJL will now also provide conference subvention for attendance at the Association of Jewish Libraries' annual conference to a promising student with a history of participating in Judaic studies or libraries, accepted into or attending or an accredited graduate school of library and information science. Free full conference registration, travel and (shared) room is included. As such, conference attendance is required. This award is merit-based rather than needs-based.

Both awards also include a service component at the conference to benefit the Association of Jewish Libraries to be determined by the awardees and committee, one option could be to volunteer during the conference or write up their experience for the AJL Newsletter.

Applicants must indicate which award(s) (student scholarship or conference subvention) they seek.
